The architects behind Rouge Bijou have been recognized with an urban intensification award.
Quadrangle Architects Ltd. worked with The Remington Group Inc. to create Rouge Bijou, the first nine multi-unit residential mixed-use buildings in Downtown Markham.
"The ambition is to establish a context for the next buildings and support the vision of Downtown Markham as a compact, sustainable, walkable and transit-oriented community," said Quadrangle's Sheldon Levitt.
The development is also being built with energy-efficiency in mind, targeting LEED Silver standards and employing a superior building envelope and in-suite energy recovery ventilators. Other features include green roofs over the entrance lobbies and rainwater harvesting.
The Markham Design Excellence Awards recognize and promote excellence in urban design.
