At The Remington Group, we believe that strong communities are built on connection, curiosity and thoughtful dialogue. That’s why we’re proud to have taken part in Jane’s Walk—a global movement that celebrates walkable, inclusive cities and the people who shape them.
Led by Randy Peddigrew, our Senior Vice-President of Land Development, Downtown Markham’s own Jane’s Walk offered a unique, on-the-ground perspective of how visionary planning translates into real, lived experiences. Organized in partnership with the City of Markham, the walk invited participants to explore the past, present and future of Downtown Markham through an urbanist lens.
Jane’s Walk began nearly two decades ago as a tribute to legendary urbanist and activist Jane Jacobs, whose work championed the importance of human-scale neighbourhoods, active public spaces and community-led change. Today, her legacy lives on through citizen-led walking tours held in cities around the world—offering opportunities for residents to engage in conversations about the places they call home.
Downtown Markham’s walk reflected the spirit of Jane’s Walk and the values it promotes:
- Creating space for meaningful conversations about urban development, growth and public life
- Empowering community voices to share stories and personal experiences
- Strengthening neighbourhood connections through exploration and dialogue
These walks are more than just tours — they are platforms for connection, understanding and community-building. By participating, we continue to affirm our commitment to building not just structures, but dynamic, people-first communities that evolve with purpose and care.
